Shopping While Black

Some black people have often told us about being repeatedly followed in a store or receiving poor service because they are black. In certain situations, false shoplifting accusations are also made against them. These places may include clothing stores, department stores, grocery stores and office equipment stores. Some writers refer to this situation as Shopping while Black or Consumer Racial Profiling.

How many times have you been in a store and found yourself being repeatedly followed as a potential shoplifter or received poor treatment or falsely accused of shoplifting that you believe was due to your race, colour or ethnicity?

In Canada, it is illegal to racially profile shoppers. If you believe you are a victim of racial profiling by a store, do not argue with the store employees including the security guard or the police. After you leave the store, contact Olalere Law Office and we will let you know how we can help you exercise your legal rights.
